Viewing movies on a 110-inch projection television in the home’s media room is a favorite pastime of the Parrillo family and their guests.

The home has three laundry rooms, all with Maytag stackable washers and dryers. Because of the amount of people that stay in the home at one time, the main laundry room, though, has two washers and dryers.

Loads of Laundry

Everyone needs a room where the dirty work can get done, and the Dream Home doesn’t disappoint. Top-of-the-line laundry appliances make doing the laundry easier, as well. There are three laundry rooms in the home: the main laundry room on the bottom floor, a smaller laundry room on the third floor, and a small space in the guest apartment. Each laundry room is conveniently located to entrances and bedrooms.

“ As we got into the planning process of the home, we realized that the amount of laundry that takes place with kids can be very large,” Mrs. Parrillo says. “So in addition to the main laundry room, we had the second one built upstairs. As there are three bedrooms up there, it’s nice for those family members not to travel down to the lower level, especially when they have wet hats or gloves.”

The laundry room in the guest apartment, she adds, is mainly used for “spillover” from the other two laundry rooms, but also for those who stay in the guest apartment.

All three laundry rooms have Maytag’s Neptune front-loading washer and dryer, stacked to make the spaces even more efficient. “The stackable washer/dryer is certainly a space-saver,” Mrs. Parrillo says.

The 80-square-foot Main laundry room, located near the entry to the garage, actually has two washers and dryers, along with a deep sink, multi-tiered shelves, and a Black & Decker ProFinish iron.

The front-loading Neptune washer, with its no agitator design, features the TurboClean™ wash system that continually turns laundry over to power out tough stains. A StainBrain™ feature takes the guesswork out of stain removal with an on-screen guide that provides step-by-step stain-removal tips, and on-board heater ensures correct water temperatures. A Favorite Cycles feature allows the Parrillo’s to create, name, and store up to 24 preferred cycles, including blue jeans and towels cycles. The dryer’s features include Smart Cool-Down, which provides extended cool-down for wrinkle-prone fabrics, a Wrinkle Release cycle that helps to remove wrinkles from already-dry clothes, and a Special Ultra Care temperature that protects precious washables.

A dream home could not be complete without a steam room and a Caldera Spa Pure Comfort hot tub. With subtle exterior wall color and tasteful ceramic tile, and large windows that open to reveal the surrounding mountains and Jordanelle Reservoir below, the spa properly showcases the outdoors, not itself. Next to the spa is a workout room that houses a NordicTrack treadmill (model 7100R) and a GRT500 weight machine, and a Panasonic PureFlat color television with a DVD player and a VCR. “We wanted to have that for our guests that don’t ski,” Mr. Parrillo says. “But even those who ski enjoy it, because at this altitude, you get quite a workout. People like it as it’s relaxing, and we feel like we’ve covered all of the bases to make this home fit everyone’s needs.

Room For Guests

The cozy and quaint guest apartment provides the comforts of home, with a fully-equipped kitchenette, full-bath, bedroom, and laundry area. It’s on the bottom floor of the home, with access to the outdoors, and a view of the mountains above and lake below.

“ The plan was to have the apartment for a caretaker to live here,” Mr. Parrillo says. “But it didn’t work out that way. We’ve used it more for our guests. It’s a plus to have when we pack the house.”

“ Especially if we have a family staying with us that have young children, the apartment offers them some real privacy,” Mrs. Parrillo adds. “It’s also nice to have that extra kitchen for parties. The caterer will prepare and store foods in that kitchen, and not be in the way. For parties, the upstairs kitchen can be more for displaying and serving the food.”

Thus, the 89-square-foot galley-style kitchenette has all of the appliances one could need to make a meal, a quick snack, or prepare appetizers for a hungry crowd upstairs. As with all of the other appliances in the home, the appliances in the kitchenette are integrated behind dark wood paneling, including a KitchenAid 36-inch wide built-in refrigerator with a pull-out freezer. The refrigerator offers 20.4 cubic feet of space, variable-speed technology to assure precise temperatures, SatinGlide freezer drawer glides, a full-width deli drawer, and a full-width crisper with removable dividers for organizing.

To the right of the refrigerator is a KitchenAid stainless-steel, four-burner cooktop and a 30-inch stainless-steel oven. Above the cooktop and oven is a Dacor stainless-steel over-the-range microwave oven. The appliance offers 1.6 cubic feet of interior space, plus intelligent features such as built-in recipes, sensor cooking, and keep-warm to make cooking easy. Featuring a 300CFM blower, it provides ventilation needs as well.

Directly across the kitchenette from the cooking appliances are the sink and a KitchenAid Superba dishwasher with a stainless-steel interior. The dishwasher features a four-inch split console design, a Whisper Quiet™ Ultima Sound Insulation system, an adjustable upper rack, five cycle selections with four cycle options, and a Baked-On cookware cycle.

On the kitchenette countertop are a White Westinghouse two-slice toaster and a Proctor-Silex 10-cup coffee maker.
